Benefit Betties President

Al E. Cat – The Bayou City Bombshell

Houston, Texas

Founder and President of the Benefit Betties, Miss Houston Vintage 2012

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

Chocolate – and still is!

What’s your favorite activity?

Facebooking….social media junkie!

What do you absolutely hate doing?

Listening to stupid people. Really grinds my gears!

What is your favorite form of exercise?

None LOL. Unless I am exercising my brain.

What is your favorite day of the year?

My birthday of course!

What’s your least favorite mode of transportation?

Flying – I love it, but I get the worst motion sickness.

What smell do you love?

The smell of garlic. Reminds me of my grandmother making Cuban food.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?

I want to witness the opening of Cuba. I would love to see a true democracy take root in the country and allow people like me who have never been able to connect with their past into the country.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

This is a hard one, but I think it would have to be John Lennon. There are some lyrics that he wrote that just really speak to me and living life and it really amazes me. He was way ahead of his time and I am sure would have changed the world even further if he had the chance to be here today.

If you were a drink, what would it be?

Pepsi! More bounce to the ounce!

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

I’m not sure I would call it a character so much, but I always have wanted to be a cat. Seriously! I wanted a tail and claws and to purr like a kitten. Yah, crazy cat lady…

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?

None! I don’t have a celebrity doppelganger!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I don’t want to grow up. But ultimately, I just want to be happy.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Al E. Cat Scratch Fever

What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?

Oh man, anything by The Beatles, Motion City Soundtrack or Janis Joplin.

Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out
to be for the best?

I think everyone has!

What was one of the best parties you’ve ever been to?

My first party in college. It lived up to every bad teen movie – keg stands, naked girls (not me of course ;)) and craziness – all capped off with the cops at the end of the night. Totally worth the fine!

What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?

Um, pretty much everything makes me cry, but 50/50 was recently on HBO and I cried my face off since cancer runs in my family.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

Had to cut people out of my life. I really like to give and help others and when someone takes advantage of that, you have to let them go. I hate doing that even if it is better for me.

What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?

I was recently in a very bad car accident that scared me pretty bad. I didn’t drive a car for 2 weeks after and had terrible nightmares about the accident. Now I am back in the car and know that the scars – mental and physical will heal and that I have to just keep going. It could have been worse and that’s how I try to look at it.

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?

Being a badass! I always had great grades, but I loved to break the rules. I would sneak out, kiss boys, you know general shenanigans and tomfoolery…

What is your first memory of being really excited?

Oh man, I have a picture somewhere of this. I remember begging my mom for this bride My Little Pony and always got a no. When I opened that package up on Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) I lost it! I think I cried I was so excited to get that pony. I still have her!

When was the last time you were nervous?

Almost anytime I get on a stage! I want people to like me and my crappy jokes and dealing with hecklers can really shake you.

Where’s Waldo?

I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you too.

  1. […] you know Alex, you know that she’s Miss Houston – literally, the Bayou City Bombshell – and she loves this city to death. It’s no wonder these two wanted to shoot somewhere […]
